HAVING A COACH IS NO LONGER A LUXURY
Coaching today is becoming as rampant as social media. Everywhere you turn you are starting to hear people talk about “their coach”. After 2 decades in the human potential arena, I know there are disadvantages and advantages to such.
Coaching is a brilliant and extremely beneficial tool that I believe everyone should have in their tool chest. Having a coach in your corner helps you see things in an entirely new perspective and will assist you in discovering solutions you might not have thought of on your own.
A Coach Provides Different Perspectives.
Picture this; you are hiking up a mountain. The terrain becomes more difficult because the grade increases and the slope become steeper. You are already half way up from the starting point but you become frustrated. As hike becomes more challenging you begin wondering when you will make it to the top. In fact, you may be so entrenched in the climb that you no longer see the end point. You notice your internal dialogue telling you things that you may not or may agree with. Your heart begins pumping harder, your breath increasing. You hear rustling sounds of the environment and you attempt to be at peace with that, but the climb feels to be getting more difficult. As you pause to gather your bearings, you have a choice. Either continue to the top or go back down the mountain. You decide to forge ahead and when you make it to the top you feel a sense of relief. You discover a person at the top who appears to be as if he is just starting out! He is refreshed, smiling, breathing deeply. You discover he just climbed the same mountain but he had a different route that was much easier that you too could take. Having him with you, you would have discovered the same victory with more ease along the way. This is what coaching is. He is your coach.
A s you embarked on a journey finding the coach that is right for you, there are 10 things to look for a, I will here are the top 3:
- Ensure they are at or further along than where you are currently at. If you were taking golf lessons, you’d look for someone who is more advanced than you, right? Likewise, your coach should have a proven track record of results.
- Make sure they are certified or have the appropriate experience. Coaching is a skilled process and like any proven processes, can be adapted to every area of your life. Without the appropriate knowledge, they will provide little value to you if they aren’t able to get to the root of your issue.
- Ensure you resonate with them. You will work closely with your coach and various issues may arise that you did not realize were blocking you. Having a close rapport with your coach will ensure you are comfortable discussing these things to get the most value from your session.
Having a success or life coach on your corner is no longer a luxury, it is essential. Top entrepreneurs and executives have known this for years.
Now, as more quality coaches enter the mainstream, their services have become more and more accessible to anyone who is ready to make a change in order to live life on their terms.
